Offering of Asanam

Once their prayer is over after taking bath in the Miracle Well of the Saint Anthony of Padua, the pilgrims make food and offer to the saint and eat the same food with other devotees. This they call St. Anthony’s Food. They feel that they have received the food from the saint.

It is believed that the food contains all the graces of the saint. And so if any one eats he/she will get cured of all mental and physical ailments. Another form of making food is “the 13 basket food”. Pilgrims make food and keep in 13 baskets made of palm leaves and offer to the Saint and eat them as a family.

They do it more meaningfully when the same food is distributed to the poor and destitute.
